I have a hard time seeing web 1.0 becoming mainstream again for several reasons. For one, it's a lot less convinient. A lot of people like the convinence of being able to go onto a site and not have to worry about formatting. The other thing is that individual websites are less profitable for companies, so they would probably try to encourage people elsewhere unless they could find ways to make more money. It would be cool to see it as well as old social media come back though. there is so much potential for creativity.

I love the web revival movement!! I'm excitedly progressing on my own site aaaaaaaa and I soooo miss the raw creative and connected old web!! Social media does kinda suck, so corpo and full of mostly outrage and hate xD it's exhausting grrrr!! So yeah, with this little resurgence of rejecting that in favor of wacky awesome personal creativity has been so awesome!!! It's so awesome to browse these cool sites for hourse on neocities!!
I'm sure this movement will thrive despite the yw falling! We can all keep it alive by carrying what yw taught us everywhere we go!!

Hey! I'm a new user so I dont have anything cool for a signature yet, forgive my sins. I'd love to see this place super active. I didnt know that an 'old web revival' was something anyone was actively pushing for, but I'm so for it... I loved the old internet. Unfortunately, like axolotyl said, its definitely not likely to be a mainstream shift. As much as I'd like to see everyone communicate via forums and stuff again, new social media is far too addictive and convenient for most people to give up. Thats okay though, because as long as theres a strong community pushing for an internet 1.0 revival, we will have our corners of the internet! I have a pretty awful relationship with social media these days because I doomscroll a lot. This is so much nicer...

There are goods of contemporary social media, but it also encourages people to read and debate on inflammatory topics and it can be very easy to doomscroll as well. It can be so harmful in that regard. Also, welcome! It's always nice to come on here every now and again and see new discussion. It's definitely smaller than say, twitter, but there is definitely charm to that aspect imo.
