At the time I initially thought it was a local plane crash that was unfortunate however more sinister than that. Given that I went to high school at the time it was then the largest loss of life in US soil in one event. web.archive.org/web/20210909144654/https://9-11commission.gov/Now its the deaths surrounding COVID-19 thats getting attention as the largest loss of life in US history and to a certain extent the globe.

I remember watching my brother playing Zelda then my dad came rushing into the living room, telling my brother to turn to the news, I saw a burning building and my dad looking distressed but I was only like 2 at that time so I didn't really understand what was going on, and my brother was only 7 at the time. Now, being older it always haunts me to know that there was also a two-year-old on one of the planes and we would have been around the same age this year if things went differently....
She was supposed to be going on a trip to Disney with her family..
I hope her and her family are in a better place now

There's a documentary about the surviving kids of some of victims of 9/11, even tho they never really got to know their parents they seem pretty well off and happy for the most part... "Generation 9/11 | PBS" www.pbs.org/video/generation-911-9pozv4/

I remember when was in high school Army, Air Force, Marines and Navy would put recruitment posters around the time the Afghanistan war started in 2001-2002 timeframe. Back then people had to make a hard decision to go to college or go to the military given the era we were in.

I wasn't around for it, but just hearing people tell about it and watching the news reports from the time is chilling. It doesn't even seem like it could have happened, but it did. Horrifying.

I was pretty young when it happened. I think I as with my mom at the park, but more of my memory is with the years after being taught about it. I could only imagine what it was like to have been a few years older and seen it happen in class when nobody knew what was going on.
