I was just talking to my mom today about how there's random things that feel like the 2000s/my childhood, but it might just be for me on a personal level bc of memories/attachments I have!
An example of this I was telling my mom today is the fast food chain Wendy's lol. IDK as a kid I was just obsessed with their chicken nuggets, and I asked my mom to take me there all the time. We'd also have minimum days in elementary school sometimes (like half-days), and I'd often ask whichever parent picked me up if we could get lunch there. I know I also would want it whenever I felt sick and stayed home from school.
It's like a weird combination of memories - watching MTV reality shows on a day off from school, hearing Sheryl Crow on the radio in the car, eating Wendy's back at home in front of the TV.
Idk if this makes any sense? Just kind of wanted to share, and if any of you have sort of random childhood nostalgia tidbits/stories/ideas that make you feel sorta happy and warm, I'd leave to read them!

Before we moved from Oregon to Arizona, my dad would take me out for lunch every other Tuesday. He got paid every two weeks on Tuesday and it would always go through at noon. Every Tuesday around noon, he'd come up to me (I was usually on his computer playing Sims or watching YouTube (specifically PewDiePie's Happy Wheels series) or scrolling on Facebook) and he'd ask me where I wanted to go for lunch. Normally it was McDonalds because those fries and nuggets make my tastebuds smile but once in a while we'd go to Burger King or Subway. Once it was his birthday and we went to Izzy's (really small buffet chain in the Willamette Valley) and we feasted like kings. On my birthday one year we opted to go to the trampoline park instead of a restaurant and let me tell you, nothing beats watching your 40 year old father fall on his face on a trampoline because a small child ran right into his leg. I miss being a kid.

Yess omg I can relate! I have specific nostalgic memories that makes me feel kinda warm and comfy It saddens me the fact that I felt THAT happy only bc I was unaware of certain things but aside that, I love to remember and I always hold on that times
when i was little i remember coming to my granny's house and she'll cook me eggs directly on the fireplace, then my aunt would tell me stories she made up just for me...

Day time TV has that kind of vibe for me! When I would skip school/actually stay home because of sickness, it was one of the few times I would have the house to myself.
It was always a bit like that scene in Matilda, where she's finally alone. I could muck around, cook food, surf the internet, try on different makeup and hairstyles, and the day wouldn't even be halfway through. Things go too quickly nowadays :/

Sitting on the living room floor, eating a bowl of cereal while watching cartoons (mostly Cartoon Network, and Boomerang) either after school or on Saturday morning.
Or wayback when Nesquik use have their site (or at least a section of it) as point and a click adventure game, I remember you started at a treehouse and had to search around the land for items for the quest, I remember one of my fave places in the click and point adventure game was a strawberry patch (idk, why I just thought it looked so pretty) and once you beat the quest, you got to print out a certificate with your name on it (and at the time I just learn how to spell my name AND use the printer by myself, so I basically printed out a whole truckload of em) I remember that game fondly because it was one of the first ones that I didn't ask help from my parents or older siblings to beat
Also the music from Chapter 4 (the map music specifically) of SpongeBob Squarepants Employee of The Month will always have a special place in my heart because that music would play before my fave chapter of the game would start, which involved Spongebob trying to get into a fancy restaurant to get a fancy suit to enter a hot spring that has a strict dress code. so he eventually ends up in the upper-class part of town to get some help, and there's an old man whose basically public enemy number one for living in an old shack (instead of a fancy mansion like the rest of the neighborhood) plus he stole one of his neighbor's golden coconut (yeah its a whole thing)its also another game I beat without asking help from my parents or siblings
Another one is staying up late on a school night, trying to stay awake to watch my brother beat whatever latest game he got from GameStop, sitting right next to him, he would usually sit in the computer chair (even though the game was on the tv, but the game console was in the same room as the computers were), and I would usually sit in the chair that had a really beat up looking seat cushion, that would hurt my legs and bottom, but I remember being so wrapped up in the game (and spending time with my brother ) I didn't really care. I also remember having to stay alert for my mom's footsteps because we both knew once we heard that it was literally "game over".

I had a big crush on this guy named troy in like first or second grade. one day i was washing my hands in the bathroom at lunch and this girl came in a said troy needed to talk to me. i was surprised and followed her out to where he was waiting outside and he started singing me this song (i don't remember exactly what he said but my friend who was there said it was about how much he loved me !!). and i was so surprised and frazzled that i didn't know what to do so I told him "i really hate you right now" and ran away i was so embarrassed and confused.
i also have a deep memory of sticking fruit snacks/gummies to the side of this metal trailer on the playground bc the metal heated up in the sun and the gummies would melt onto it. we'd put them there at lunch and come back the next day to see if they were still stuck.
on the same playground in like 3rd grade i remember chasing my friend collin around before school. it was that perfect 8am chill in the air and i remember being so out of breath and my lungs hurting frm the cold but my body felt so good and warm from the heat of running at full speed. i still hang out with collin today and he's one of my best friends <3
i also remember the cafeteria having biodegradable forks on Earth day one year so my friends and i buried it in the garden because we didn't understand it would take years to biodegrade. we dug it up every day for a week to see if it was disintegrating and were so confused why it wasn't.
i could go on with these 4ever but i guess i'll save it for zine 2

I remember every morning before I went to school, I'd use to eat either cereal or Vienna Sausages for breakfast every morning and watch Disney channel or PBS Kids re-runs of Mr. Rogers. I also had an old VHS player and watched a collection of old cartoons my grandma used to watch. I remember watching old MTV shows a lot that my older cousin showed me after he went to school. My favorite shows on there ended up being Daria and Jackass which is kind of funny to me because he showed them to me at 5. I also liked whenever I had to visit my mom on weekends and go to either Chuck E Cheese or Boomers! together and go to the park and get ice cream after. I also remember the times I spent sitting down on the bench at recess and talking away with my best friend Jasper and having sleepovers at each other's houses. One profound memory I had at one of those sleepovers was when we were about 12/13 years old and we looked out his treehouse and watched the stars as we talked about the things we liked and confessed about our sexuality/gender.

I remember when I was in high school from 2001-2005 I used to explore different cliques in my school due to the fact that I was filming for Yearbook at the time and got to see social interactions worked at the time from different sides.
Today exploring different cliques is harder given that once I went to college I was siloed into majors and I only sticked to people within my division such as the biology majors program and I saw only one set of perspectives.
The perspectives I saw was either you go to a biotech startup or go to medical school. But that's life.

Dude I was doing film projects at the time when I was in High School from 2003-2005 I did the same too and I quit as soon as Youtube was born. Back then we had to issue VHS and DVD's to certain cliques because they want to remember their events. I remember when I was in high school from 2001-2005 I used to explore different cliques in my school due to the fact that I was filming for Yearbook at the time and got to see social interactions worked at the time from different sides.

I remember seeing a girl with BIG hoop earrings in the mall food court and thinking she was so pretty, and that when I would get my ears pierced I'd get giant hoops like that too xD. Also laundromats for some reason will always remain in the 2000s. I met a boy at a laundromat in like 2008 who was there with his mom, and he gave me his DS to play with but my parents didn't let me use technology/consoles and I was scared I'd get in trouble so I just watched him play...

I remember back in the early and mid 2000's I remember a pandemic prediction like COVID-19. But at the time it was the Anthrax scare, Avian Flu, Antibiotic resistant bacteria and SARS were the candidates for a major pandemic. Once COVID-19 stay at home orders were Issued then I starting looking back at the prediction that was floating around when I was a Teen-early 20's at the time. I looked at my old microbiology books about this.
